Christmas 2014

Our day started at 5:30am. (Well, Jasmine started it by waking us up.) We enjoyed unwrapping many fine gifts. Jasmine especially liked her new guitar, lots of new clothes and an iphone 4s. My favorite was a big box of chocolate. And Emily is loving her new iphone 5s.

Emily did a wonderful job decorating. And she put out a great snack-able spread of cheeses, crackers and cured meats.

Christmas Eve dinner

Usually we got out for Chinese on Christmas Eve (inspired from the Christmas Story of course). This year we did something different and accepted an invitation from our neighbors to join them at Salty’s – a famous seafood restaurant on the Columbia River.

I started with seafood chowder, while Emily got the bruschetta platter. My entree was rock fish with shrimp and artichokes. Emily got cauliflower steak and roasted yams. Jasmine got a cheese burger and fries. For dessert we got vanilla creme brulee and baked alaska.

The festive decor and fine dining was a nice prelude to the holiday.

Princess Bride – Cary Elwes

Our family is a Princess Bride fan, so I was excited to attend Cary Elwes ‘Westley’ talk at Powell’s for his new book “As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of the Princess Bride”.

It turned out to be the biggest attendance event at the Cedar Hill’s location. Even though the place was overflowing – it still had friendly sociable vibe.

They started out with the whole crowd saying “As you wish.” Then Cary launched into a series of entertaining stories and anecdotes about the film – often in character.
